Steady Ed Memorial Disc Golf Trophy

the “Steady” Ed Memorial Disc Golf Trophy

The “Steady” Ed Memorial Disc Golf Trophy was created by DGA in the memory of the “Father of Disc Golf.” The Trophy is awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies “Steady” Ed’s code of conduct for the sport of Disc Golf. The recipient receives the honorary title of “Annual Good Will Ambassador,” and is recognized for continuing the legacy of the Founding Father of Frisbee and the sport of disc golf.

Ed worked tirelessly while he was alive to build the sport of disc golf and expose new people to the game. He strove to standardize the sport for fun and tournament play. Ed believed above everything else that, “whoever has the most fun, wins” and that you should always “leave things better than you find them.” It is in that spirit that each year a recipient of the “Steady” Ed Memorial Trophy is chosen.

Each recipient of the “Steady” Ed Memorial Disc Golf Trophy has exemplified Ed’s vision. While many of the recipients have won various, and sometimes numerous tournaments, it is their love and respect for the game and how they have enhanced the sport for future generations that has established their mark in disc golf history and earned their place as recipients for this trophy.

Molded from stainless steel and polished to a chrome finish, the “Steady” Ed Memorial Disc Golf Trophy stands fifteen inches high atop its base. The base, created from old growth white oak timbers recycled from a 200-year-old tobacco plantation in Tennessee, stands six inches high and fifteen inches wide and deep. (The use of oak is symbolic of Oak Grove Park, the first formal disc golf course created by Ed.) Each year’s recipient’s name will be added to a metal plate attached to the trophy. The trophy, Ed’s memory and the yearly recipient will become a living historical record for the sport.
