Entrepreneurs don't let economy keep them down - Battle Creek Enquirer

E-mail
An economic recession hasn't kept some local entrepreneurs from expanding their businesses.

In a down economy, affordable sports reign, said Emmett Township's Austin Suedmeyer, 30, who opened a Wattles Park disc golf pro shop in August with his father, Philip Suedmeyer, 67, of Battle Creek.

The younger Suedmeyer said November was the best month yet for The Frizbee Room at 1402 E. Michigan Ave. They sell discs, for $8 to $19 apiece, and related equipment.

"Disc golf is a sport that's getting bigger and bigger every day and there's not another pro shop in the area," said Austin Suedmeyer, who has played occasionally for more than 10 years. "It's relaxing and you get your exercise."

The store is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours will be extended to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday in the spring and summer.
