I am writing this letter about the recent decision to take the disc golf course out of Fillmore Park. As an avid disc golfer, I would be at the park four to five times a week and I rarely saw disorderly people. I have seen way more foul balls from the baseball parks enter neighboring yards.
I truly believe this sudden decision was the action of a few angry people who decided to buy a house next to a city park.
The sport of disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and it’s a great way to use city land for free. I personally saw hundreds of out-of-towners each week travel to Alexandria use this course, which was ranked one of the best in the state. These disc golfers would also buy their gear from local establishments such as Cowing Robards and Super America.
There are always going to be a few kids that will be unruly, but I personally never saw it. It will be interesting to see how the park will be wasted.
