More than 100 disc golfers will lay claim Saturday to Grand Prairie's Turner Park, at the southwest corner of Tarrant and Belt Line roads, for the Turner Park Tune-up, a Lone Star Disc Association event.

Play starts at 10 a.m. and continues all day.

The event is the first of a dozen to be conducted as part of Dynamic Disc Inc.'s 1020 Dirty Dozen tour.

"Turner Park's new disc golf course is quickly becoming one of the most popular such courses in the area," said Jim Dart, Grand Prairie Park Board member and Lone Star Disc Association founder. "The course is challenging and fun as it rolls with the hills of the park and weaves among the many trees and creeks. People come from all over just to play this course."

The course opened in October 2009, and offers 18 holes of disc golfing fun. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use flying discs (think specialized, uniquely aerodynamic Frisbees), which they throw into elevated baskets.
