Disc Golf in America - Faribault, MN - Wapacuta Park Print E-mail
The Faribault Course is located in Wapacuta Park.   Wapacuta is a native american word that means, "I wish I would have driven to Owatonna".

This is one of those city parks time forgot and when it was rediscovered someone decided to put a Disc Golf course in it.  This place is so ancient that Pablo almost ran off with a Stubebaker while me, Earl and Uncle Buck were on the course.

If you're local and this is your only option things could be worse.  I would suggest getting one of those girls with the bandana tied to her head who wears the tie dyed tank top with no bra and packs your oney for you.

The directions on google aren't that bad:

Directions: 35W south to Cty. Rd. 21, then south to Hwy 60 east. East to a right on 2nd Ave. to the park.

Personally I would just go east on Hwy 60 into town.  This way if you are coming from the south you won't drive past highway 60.  This direction was obviously written by someone coming from the Cities.  Cities meaning Minneapolis and St. Paul NOT Northfield and Dundas.

Park in the little lot by the ancient tennis court.  The first tee is to the North of the tennis court on top of a hill aiming down towards the edge of the tree line.

The course description on Google is pretty close to accurate:
Short but not easy. In narrow park with some interesting challenges. Good variety and some elevation.
When your done with hole one walk up the hill and take the path into the woods.  This is the only confusing part of the park and it's not that bad.

For seven holes the course sort of makes sense.  Most holes have elevation challenges which vary a lot.  There are some trees in the way and you have to use various techniques.  Normally you would think this is fun.

Then you come to holes eight and nine.  Basicaly the designers ran out of space and pulled these two holes out of their butt.

Hole eight is a straight shot over mowed grass and you aim into the side of a wooded mini cliff.  There is no possible way for your disc to go through the trees and up the mini cliff from the tee box.  once you get to the edge of the tree line you have to do a hammer throw through the trees and onto a ledge.

The course designer must have had one of those girls I described earlier and she had to have been packing bowls not oney's.

Hole nine is just dumb.  You throw off a ledge which is always fun but who likes to throw into playground equipment.  The last thing I want to hear on a Disc Course is "Mommy will you take this Frisbee out of my head."

Also, someone cut out some small tree's a few inches of the ground.  DON'T TRIP MAKING YOUR TROW.   You will end up 15 feet below in the parking lot.

Maybe nailing a little kid would be okay if the kids mom was hot.  It probably doesn't matter when your ride is a 1977 Buick Estate Wagon.  Wagon's don't exactly impress the ladies.  You would like to think divorcees wouldn't be so picky.

Timmy Gill the Pro from Minneapolis drives around in an old Bread Truck.  He probably doesn't get any chicks either.  I wonder if he has one of those girls with the tie dyed tank tops? Hmmmm.

I figure getting a girl is like selling a house.  It doesn't matter how ugly your crib is, you only need one buyer.

After playing Wapacuta the boys and I headed down the road.  Pablo decided to crank up that old Neil Young classic Welfare Mothers from the ageless Rust Never Sleeps record.

I give Wapacuta two discs out of five.

Too many better disc golf courses within a half an hour drive to recommend pulling off the interstate for Wapacuta.
