UPDATE--------UPDATE-------UPDATE--------UPDATE--------UPDATE---------

Stoney Creek Metro Park has been deemed by many pro players to be the best pro course in Michigan. With its variety of open fields and narrow tree paths, this course challenges every player. The rolling hills and the constant breeze offer unique challenges in every game. The recent addition of concrete tees has made this course a pleasure to play. This course is a definite must for every serious minded disc golf player.

Directions: From M-59: Take Rochester Rd. north about 5 miles to Tienken Rd. Take a right at Tienken, go about 3 miles to Shelby Rd. Take Shelby Rd north. It gets a little tricky from here, but if you follow the signs to the park entrance, you'll be ok. If not, veer to the left at the fork in the road, towards the park entrance. Go through the toll booth, and veer to the right at the next fork in the road. The disc golf course is in the first parking lot on your right. There's a post that marks the beginning and claims that there are score cards there, but it's always empty. Park fees are $2 weekday, $3 weekends and holidays, $15 for a season pass (Metropark Pass).

Here is a list of the holes, their distance, par, and a breif description. Caution-every hole that says it's open, there is an 80% chance that there will be wind, sometimes light, sometimes strong.

Here is brief description of the new holes, which are all very wooded:

A: 325 ft. A tight anhyzer shot through many small trees.

B: 250 ft. A norrow lane to the basket around a sharp left dogleg, your best bet is to skip it around the corner.

C: 300 ft. A fairly straight shot, but very tricky with the pin placement. An overhand shot is possible, risky but very rewarding.

D: 375 ft. Probably the second hardest hole on the course. Goes right, then left, and then fades back right to the basket. Tee shot is usually a layup shot, very narrow and tight hole.

E: 175 ft. You can use a putter on this tee shot, straight and simple.

F: 275 ft. A fairly easy hole, slight anhyzer over a swamp.

1-382 ft. par 3- A slight dogleg to the left, basket is guarded by some decent size trees, a good warm-up hole. Top

2-476 ft. par 4- A long dogleg, (gradual turn), basket is heavily guarded by trees, makes for an interesting approach shot. Top

3-349 ft. par 3- A hard dogleg to the left, basically an open hole, one very large bush near basket that does cause some distress. Top

4-461 ft. par 4-This hole seems a lot longer when you look at it. Pretty much a straight hole, a couple of large pine trees narrow the fairway a bit, a few trees around the basket, but they're mature so if you keep it low you're ok. Top

5-234 ft. par 3-This hole is a bit tricky, it is lined heavily with trees on both sides and doglegs to the right about 175 ft. down. Requires a low shot due to the abundance of branches. Top

6-464 ft. par 4- This hole is hated by all. The tee off is very narrow and very low, about 130 up it doglegs to the left. After that it opens up a bit, still has many trees and shrubs. About 100 ft up from the first dogleg, it doglegs back to the right, and then makes a nice turn back to the left. There a few trees that make this hole very challenging. Top

7-276 ft par 3-This hole is interesting but yet still frustrating. It is a heavily wooded hole. If you throw in the rough, expect to get a 4 or 5 on this hole. The layout is basically a S shape. It starts off curving to the left, straightens out , and then back to the right again.(very slight turns). There is a small opening between two trees that if you hit it will leave you with a nice shot. Top

8-421 ft. par 4-A nice open hole. It starts off going up hill and then doglegging sharply to the left and going back downhill. The basket is in an open area, although there is a group of trees about 75 ft before hand that can make for a difficult approach. Top

9-426 ft. par 4-Another nice open hole, tightens up a bit around the basket. There is a slight dogleg to the right. Heavy trees on the left side of fairway. Top

10-392 ft. par 4- A nice open hole that doglegs to the right about 275 ft up. A few large bushes stand in the way, but are easy to shoot around. There are heavy trees on the left side, heavy brush on the right. Top

11-202 ft. par 3- A very short hole, but very tricky. The basket lies on the far side of some very large trees, there is no nice shot if you go down the fairway. The best shot is either to go way high, or throw an anhyzer off the left side of the fairway, to hook around the largest of trees. Top

12-303 ft. par 3- A nice open hole, heavy woods on the right with a sharp dogleg to the right. A large tree stands smack dab in the middle of the dogleg. The basket also has a line of semi-mature trees lined in front of it. Top

13-529 ft. par 5-A nice open, long hole. There are a couple of trees that make the tee-off tight. There is a sharp dogleg to the right about 150 ft from the tee. There is a large tree just in front and to the right of the basket, making a difficult approach for all right handers. Top

14-389 ft. par 4- A nice open hole with a dogleg to the right, not too sharp. There are some large trees on the inside of the dogleg, and brush on both sides of the fairway. There are two large trees guarding the basket, but they're easy enough to get around. Top

15-302 ft. par 3- A tricky hole. Basically a straight hole, lots of large trees and bushes making for a narrow fairway. If you throw to the right just above the bushes you'll land close to the pin. Otherwise, there is a couple of semi-mature trees right in the middle of the fairway that catch a lot of discs. Top

16-234 ft. par 3-A very tight hole with a dogleg to the right. Lots of branches and small trees that love to play catch. The rough can be pretty nasty once bounced off a tree. There are also some large rocks on the left side of the rough that will beat up your disc. The basket however is nice and open. Some teens were also nice enough to build a 3' high stone wall about 75' from the tee pad, so watch out for that. Top

17-372 ft. par 3- This hole has two baskets. If you take the short one,(to the left) that will take you too the short tee on 18. If you take the long one (to the right) it will take you to the long tee for 18. It starts off very narrow, you throw about 100 ft, where you either go 90 degrees to the left or right. If you go to the left, the basket is nice and open. if you go to the right, you have some very large bushes (very numerous too) and a small alley of trees to throw down to get to the basket. Top

18-992 ft. par 5- A very long hole, generally open, a few trees scattered about to make the fairway interesting. It goes to the left slightly about 320 ft up and straightens out for about 400 ft before turning slightly back to the right and straightens out for the remainder of the hole. Top

Please help keep this course clean and don't destroy anything. Many posts and signs have already fell victim to vandals. Throw trash in the garbage cans and don't knock the garbage can over, it's rude to the people who visit and for us who make this our home course. Please use common curtesy on Hole #18. The pro tee is about 350' behind the AM tee, so look behind you if you're throwing from the AM tee so you don't cut in front of anyone. I've had this happen quite a few times already this year.
