Course Information

******THE COURSE HAS UNDERGONE MAJOR REORGANIZATION****

AGAIN!

Because of the new library construction and construction of two new parking lots (yechh!!) the course has been redesigned extensively. Please click here for a new map!! (when the Library construction is done (2001), old holes 1,2 and nine will hopefully return...maybe with three new baskets to make it a 12 hole course.

The Fairfield course is situated on the southern end of campus. The course winds up and down round hill, at the top of which is Bellarmine hall. The course features just enough old growth trees to keep drives honest, difficult putts up to baskets on the sides of steep banks, and a very picturesque water hole over the lower campus pond. Hole number one starts BEHIND THE BUSINESS SCHOOL parking lot.

New! Course Map

The new course is shorter but not neccesarily easier! The course now features many holes with very challenging sloped greens, placing a premium on careful upshots and putts.

Brief descriptions of the new nine holes

Description
1 Looking backwards on Hole 1 from the pin to the tee
1 Short Hole 1 from the tee. Basket is just to the left of the tree centered on top of the hill
2 Touchy blind turnover shot for righties - easy hyzer for lefties Pin is located near the forth tree from the left, up over the hill
2 An easy putt awaits on 2 if you can clear the hill and trees seen in the background here
3 Nice modestly long big hyzer or S up the hill to a pin placed on a steeply sloping green
3 Many drives land at the base of the hill leaving a good uphill putt for the birdie
3 putting down the hill can lead to some serious problems......
4 Known as the toughest hole on the course, short four features a tight, uphill, sloping fairway with OB on both sides and a sloping green. The pin is about 150 feet directly behind the thin tree dead center of the fairway
4 Many drives come up short, leaving testy approaches to the pin sitting on the slope up just right of the purple tree.
5 From the long tee five is a big S out over Bellarmine Lawn and down the hill, the short tee presents a gentle turnover shot
5 Often drives come up short on top of the hill, leaving a testy downhill putt.
5 Long drives can easily go all the way over the back access road into the deep rough....time to save par!
6 Hole six features an extremely sloped short fairway with just enough trees to make it a challenge.
5 A good flick can leave you with a relatively easy cross-slope putt for two
6 Here is hole six looking back up the sloped fairway to the tee area
7 The Fairfield U signature hole, straight out over the lake. Excessive turnover is punished severly! (Splash)
7 Good drives clear the lake and leave a straighforward putt for the duece
8 Eight is long blind hyzer back into a beautiful copse of mature trees...clear the hill and gentyl go left
8 Drives on eight often end up a little right, leaving a long putt into the shaded tree area for the deuce
9 Very tricky left to right short hole with plenty of bushes and trees guarding the fairway. The best drive is a roller, either bachand or a flick. Get to the grass!
9 A great drive...or a good recovery from an early tree...gives you an easy putt into the basket
