Big Bird Safari at Edora
(Posted: Saturday Nov. 8, 2008)

The next NCDGC Monthly tournament is coming up next weekend, on Sunday Nov. 16th. It will be the normal monthlies format of two rounds, except that both rounds will be a "Safari" 9 hole round (which means we'll combine holes, use alterante tees, etc). We'll take a short break for lunch in between. We'll payout at 100%, as usual, Pros in cash, and Am's in prizes. Don't be shy, there's a division perfect for your skill level!

Don't forget, at every monthly this year, we have a $100 running ace pool!

The Winter Warriors benefit tour is back for it's fourth year. Each week the series moves to a different course around Colorado, incorporating different, fun variations on the best-disc doubles format and raising money for the 2009 Ice Bowl Fund. The Series begins today in Arvada at the Johnny Roberts Course, and runs weekly until Jan 31. The Fort Collins event takes place on Dec. 13 at 10:00 am, but be sure to venture out of town and enjoy some of the other great courses in Colorado!

More info on the format and the list of dates and locations is available on the Mile High Website

Edora Gets a Tune Up
(Posted: Wednesday, Oct. 29 2008)

A big thanks goes out to Kevin at Colorado's Mobile Lockshop for discounted locks, lock parts and labor to revamp the basket anchors at Edora. Over the years, the locks had begun to seize up, collect dirt and rust. These repairs, combined with some extra keys in circulation, should result in more frequent movement of baskets on the course.

New Leadership for 2009
(Posted: Thursday, September 18 2008)

Thanks to all who came out for the club elections. Here are your new officers and board members for 2009:

  • Danny Burdick - President
  • Evan Brummett - Vice President
  • Bryan McEndaffer - Treasurer
  • Directors - Bill Mastre, Todd Krauss, Dan Weaver, Chad Johnson, Pete Givens, Dan Buettgenbach, Erick Diersen, Pat Lien, and Lance Collette
This is by far the most volunteers we've had step up in years. If it's any indication, there are big things in store for the coming year.

If you see these folks out on the course, be sure to thank them for their commitment to the future of our local disc golf scene!

New Course Opens in Red Feather
(Posted: Monday, June 21, 2008)

There's a new course in the ground in Northern Colorado. It's located at the Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch in Red Feather Lakes, CO. The course will be the newest addition to a long list of activities they offer, including fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, paddle boating and rafting.

Amenities at Beaver Meadows include a restaurant open from breakfast through dinner, serving pizza, fajitas and burgers among other things. There is also a bar on site, high speed internet, campsites and lodging with cabins for up to 8 people.

If the course is anything like the preview I got a few weeks ago, be prepared for one of the best courses in Colorado. With 3-4 holes having water hazards in play, many challenging wooded holes, and some considerable elevation change throughout the course, this will be a gem treasured by players in the region for years to come. Add this to the great course we've come to love at the Sundance Trail Ranch only 10 minutes away, and we now have a mini-disc golf mecca right in our backyard!

The cost to play the course $5 per day, per player. For directions to the course, click here.

Disc Golfers Make a Difference
(Posted: Monday, March 24 2008)

The volunteering spirit is alive and well in the disc golf community.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation recently sent a Thank You letter (view 839kb) to the Northern Colorado Disc Golf Club, members of which teamed up with the Wright Life and students at Fossil Ridge High School to send, Hannah, a five year old Fort Collins resident battling illness, to Disney World in Florida. Twenty-six participants raised $400 for the cause during a tournament held Sunday, January 6 at Edora Park in 37 degree temperatures.

Since August 2007, Northern Colorado Disc Golfers have raised $7200.00 for various charitable causes including $3200.00 for Denver Children's Hospital and $3600.00 for the Colorado Special Olympics.

In addition, local players, working with the Fort Collins Parks Dept., have donated over 75 hours of their time to re-landscaping and mulching worn sections of the park.

If you would like to get involved with these charitable activities, there will be plenty of chances to help coming up. Stay tuned to www.nocodiscgolf.com for updates on course work days, charity tournaments, and volunteer opportunities within the club.

NCDGC Photo Gallery
(Posted: Tuesday, Jan 15, 2008)

If you've got some great disc golf pictures and you're looking for somewhere to show them off, you can now create an account for the NCDGC Photo Gallery and post all those great pics for everyone to see!

There's already some cool shots in there, but we can always use more. Also, if you participated last week in the Cabin Fever Killer, you may even see some pictures of yourself. Check it out!

2008 Monthlies
(Updated: Saturday, Jan 11, 2008)

2008 is here, and with the new year comes a revival of the NCDGC monthlies. Due to the small turnout of Sunday leagues last year, we've decided to instead focus our efforts on a once-a-month, larger event, instead of a small weekly gathering. Each month, the club will host a mini tournament in the area, and scores from each monthly will count toward a series total. Since its unlikely that all players will make it to each one, a players 4 worst events will be dropped, so you won't be penalized for missing a few, but will benefit from making as many as possible. Brandon has put together a schedule of dates for the season which can be viewed here. He is still looking for catchy names for a few of the events, so if you've got an idea, let him know at brandon@nocodiscgolf.com.

Volunteers Power Edora Mulch Project
(Posted: Saturday, Nov 3, 2007)

If you've been out to Edora in the past month, you've probably seen the huge improvements made to some of the tee boxes on the course. In addition to improving the look of the course, the mulch being laid around the boxes helps with wet weather traction, and to help slow erosion.

Tee 17 shows the fruits of the work
In total, we've had 9 volunteers show up to work on the tees so far, and their progress has been met enthusiastically by players and Parks workers alike. This is purely a volunteer project, so anyone who is able is encouraged to show up to help. Work will be taking place on Sunday mornings from 7 to 11 am. If anyone is inclined to help just show up at any time between those hours. Next Tee on the agenda is number 15. Any assistance you can offer will help ease the load on the other volunteers.
