The Springfield Disc Golf Club was organized in 1999 after the first course was installed in Douglas Park in the Spring of 1999. Organized to promote disc golf and bring together all the area disc golf players, it quickly organized the first successful disc golf tournament in late September of that first year. This has now become an annual event called the SDGC Annual Fall Classic. In the Spring of 2000, the first PDGA sanctioned event was held to support the Angel Love Foundation.
