DiscGolf is a game played like conventional ball & club golf, however, the tools of the game are different, in that instead of hitting a little ball around the course into a little hole, you throw 'discs' at, or, into targets. The basic object is to to traverse the course in as few throws as possible to attain a low score. Aces are called aces; birdies are birdies and bogies are bogies. DiscGolf also has some of it's own nomenclature, such as the 'Hyzer' and 'AnHyzer' throws [a 'hyzer' throw is one which is thrown with the disc edge pointed downwards, to induce a 'slice' type of affect when thrown, where the 'anhyzer' throw is accomplished with the disc edge 'up' attempting a 'hook' type affect when thrown as such.

The game, or some variation thereof, has probably been played ever since society had the first available 'flying discs' at it's disposal. However, the currently recognized organized game of discgolf can be attributed to the late "Steady" Ed Headrick, when he patented the first official 'disc catching' target known affectionately as the 'Mach One'. The very first 'basketed' discgolf course was established in 1976, and is located outside Pasadena, CA, at Oak Grove (Hahamongna Park).
