help with the terms - 2004/07/05 14:09I'm new to disc golf, playued for the first time yesterday and liked it now i'm looking to purchase some disc's but I don't understand some of the terms on the different disc's. For example whats the difference between speed and glide do you want higher or lower numbers? Also whats the difference between high speed turn and low speed turn. And finally what do I need to take into consideration when deciding on the weight of the disc

Re: help with the terms - 2004/07/05 15:19http://www.innovadiscs.com/ should give you some more insight on the discs. Speed is how fast the disc travels through the air, 10 being the fastest, 1 being the slowest. The fastest discs are known to fly a lot further, i throw a beast for long distance and it has a speed of 10. Basically for drivers there are understable, stable, and overstable. if your right handed and you throw normal and understable disc will go right, an overstable disc will go left, a firebird or monster is a real overstable disc and a stingray is a real understable disc. Anything is good by innova i throw the firebird, banshee, eagle, teebird, orc, and beast for drivers roc for midrange, and aviar for putters. Try out differnt discs and see what works best, sometimes it takes a while before you can throw an overstable disc very far but there always great for big turns.

Re: help with the terms - 2004/07/06 06:58Many of the sites listed under the "Where to Shop" link have suggestions for beginner discs that are pretty good as does www.discgolfreview.com.
High speed turn is how much a disc will "turn over" (go right for right-hand-backhand throwers or left-hand-forehand throwers and left for left-hand-backhand and right-hand-forehand throwers) during the high speed portion of the flight. Low speed fade is how much a disc will fade (go in the opposite direction as the high speed turn) as a disc slows down at the end of it's flight.
