Re: best forearm drivers/mid-range? - 2004/06/30 10:37I used to throw drives exclusively forehand and got very good with a Z-XS until I lost it. It really depends on your throw. It is usually preferable for me to use an overstable disc for forehand. I was flipping everything I had until I got a Reaper which is like 2.5 overstable. Since you are just starting, you may want to keep to something around 1 to 1.5 overstable. A friend of mine throws forehand also and really likes his Predator.

Re: best forearm drivers/mid-range? - 2004/06/30 12:06Well, the best sidearm driver I have ever used is the Monster. But that would probably be too overstable for a beginner. You should try a Champion Firebird. Thats the most popular driver for sidearm throwers I think. Orcs also work good for me.
For a midrange get a DX ROC or a Z Buzzz.

Re: best forearm drivers/mid-range? - 2004/06/30 12:10It depends on your throw. Many backhanded throwers use overstable discs, like the Firebird or Monster for forehand throws because they are unalbe to get the spin needed to keep the disc straight or to gurantee that the disc goes in a certain direction. If you get enough spin on the disc for how hard you throw it then any disc that's good for backhand is good for forehand. I have a friend that throws primarily forehand who uses a Discraft XL and many people would consider that disc too flippy for forehand, but it works great for him.

Re: best forearm drivers/mid-range? - 2004/07/02 21:26Throwing forhand or backhand what works for you is what works for you. Try as many drivers as you can and figure out what works and what doesn't. I primarily throw forehand. My favorite discs are 10x eagles. They fly straight until they fade right at the end of thier flight. Depanding on the shot I also use a CE Valk (turnover), CE TeeBird (big s curve), Firebirds (straight and a hard right finish), and 10x and 11x KC Banshee's (best into the wind disc). Once you learn to forhand you should be able to forhand just about any disc. It just takes time. Go to a field and practice, practice, practice. I am also learning to forhand midrange discs and putters. More of a flick than a drive. Great for getting around objects (trees, bushes, etc.) when I need the disc to anhyzer on short shots.
