Grips? - 2008/04/22 06:21A relative n00b here, posting some questions related to grip. Specifically, I'm curious if you use the same grip for each throw (Drive, approach, putt, etc.), and if you use the same grip if you're going hyz or anhyz.
It throw right-handed, backhand. I've taken to using my first and second finger on the leading edge of the disc, thumb on top, and ring and pinkie underneath (not curled onto the edge, but extended out into the middle of the disc).
This, I've found keeps my disc level through full extension if I end up pointing at my target like a gun when I'm finished with my follow-through. Unfortunately, it plays hell with my distance. Basically, I'm trading accuracy for distance, because I'm thinking the distance will come with muscle memory.
When I'm really trying to whip it far, I find I have to drop my shoulders a bit to keep the disc level through the longer windup and extension, so I'm looking for other, more consistent grip options.
What works for you?...this is my signature.

There are so many factors that go into what grip I choose. Distance being the most relevant. Power grip for drives, distance and fairway, birdie grip for some approaches, control grip for putting(outside 10m) and a fangrip inside the circle. Using the control/fan grip I always check to make sure i have a pressure point just underneath the second joint on my middle finger with my thumb on the other side, the disc gets proper rotation that way.
