Noobie question - 2006/04/20 07:46Hello, Last Saturday I was at a "Bunny Bash" with the family here in NC (it's an Easter thing) ....well there was a booth with a guy from Innova (cant remember his name) anyways we talked for a short while and I even shot a few putt shots.....needless to say I would like to give it a try. I have been a stick and ball player for many, many years but it sure as hell gets expensive....well my question for all you experts out there...
What would be a some good disc's to start with? and how many should I start with as well?
I would really like to give this sport a fair, it's looks like loads of fun and there are several courses here in Charlotte that are free.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Erick.

Re:Noobie question - 2006/04/26 03:13Always great to see new players picking up the sport. Especially when they cross over from stick golf to the real deal...ahaha.
Anyway...here are some suggestions for discs to start with. I think that the Stingray made by Innova is the best disc for beginners to start with. This disc is technically a mid range but with beginners usually only throwing 100-200 feet this will work as a driver. The stingray is available in standard plastic so it should only run like 7 bucks. A good putter to start with is an Aviar. I think almost everyone starts with an Aviar. It is tried and true. try to find a putter that feels comfortable in your hand. If you try these discs and ya still think you need a driver, Pick up a Valkyrie. These discs are awesome and will work for beginners and pros alike.
Check out www.discgolfreview.com This is a huge resource for disc golfers and has many helpful tips
Also check out www.pdga.com and go to DISCussion. You can't post without a pdga membership but you should be able to browse the forum. Here you can see the opinions ofr many disc golfers around the world and find the information you think is pertinent to you.

Re:Noobie question - 2006/04/27 07:21Thanks Jesse....I appreciate the suggestions.....I will be going out this weekend to pick up some discs. I am going to go with the Aviar for a putter, and either the stingray or a shark (someone also recomended a shark)....I think I can get away with those two....but If I do decide to go with a driver I will definitley look at the Valkrie.
Thanks again for the help, hopefully there will be some people on the course to get some pointers from
man I feel like a kid I cant wait ti get out there.

Re:Noobie question - 2006/04/30 16:54Yeah...this is my favorite sport! glad the tips helped. The shark and the aviar are both excellent beginner discs. And for a non Innova choice try the buzz. I actually throw the buzz currently and i keep 3 of them in my bag. I could play a whole game with a midrange. Very stable. Goes where ya throw it. The Buzz is made by discraft! good luck on the course!!
