Discraft vs Innova Stability Guides HELP! - 2005/04/29 22:45I'm still fairly new to the sport but have dived in head first and have been doing all sorts of research. The one thing that really confuses me is the difference between Discraft and Innova's Stability Guides. Discraft just gives the one number to indicate stable, understable or overstable where as Innova Gives both a "high speed turn" stability number and a "fade" number. I have read both companies explinations on their websites but that was no real help.
My question is "Do they both represent the same things and Discraft just leaves off the "fade" number or does Discraft use it's one number to represent the same info as Innova's two?"
Looking at both manufacturer's disc catalogs only helps further the confusion because almost all of Discrafts discs are overstable (anything from +1 to +4) where as most of Innova's discs are understable ("high speed turn" -1 to -3). Infact Innova doesn't list a disc with a rating over +1.
Please Help!

Re:Discraft vs Innova Stability Guides HELP! - 2005/05/02 19:44The Discraft stability ratings are a combination of Innova's "High speed turn" and "Low speed fade" ratings. I'm far from an expert, but discs that have a "1" rating from Discraft are normally understable, discs with a 1.5 rating are fairly straight and discs with a 2 rating or higher are overstable.
A couple of vendors have rated all of the discs they sell using Innova's ratings. I know that www.sunkingdiscs.com and www.teepad.com both do this. You can also go to www.discgolfreview.com and find reviews of most discs on the market.
The ratings will start to mean more you to as your techniqe improves and the discs start flying like they were intended.

Re:Discraft vs Innova Stability Guides HELP! - 2005/05/05 17:09I am still trying to figure it out. I think Discraft just combines high speed turn and low speed fade into one number. I have a Discraft XL and its stability is 0. It is a straight flyer. I also have a Discraft Stratus X and its stability is -1 and its understable. So discraft ratings are: -1 is the most understable I have seen made by Discraft up to +5 which is the most overstable.
Innova tries to break the flight into two parts which is important but I find the fade to be your best indicator for where the disc will go at the end of the flight. If your turn is negative but a positve fade, thats a disc like the cobra, it will make an S type curve. If your turn is positve and the fade is positive then you have a overstable disc like the Eagle. If your turn is negative and the fade is negative ( if there is a disc like this) then its very understable.
As someone who plays often for fun I recommend a disc that is stable and a disc that has the S curve.
