Disc golf injuries? HELP! - 2005/04/24 19:38 Hello!

I am 30 years old and have been playing disc golf as a weekend warrior/recreational player for nearly 15 years. While there are periods where I will play 2-3 times a week, my outings are usually limited to two-three times a month. However, the last couple of months that I have played I have gotten a severe pain in my right elbow (I am right-handed) when I tee off. The pain gets progressively worse through a round and the last time I played I had to stop after the 7th hole because it was so severe.

If I hold my right arm straight out and place my palm up, the pain is located on the right side of the outside (the part currently pointing down) of my elbow. When I throw a hard drive, the pain will "shoot" in both directions up and down my arm with the center being at the aforementioned spot on my elbow. There is also a strong numbing sensation that lasts from 15-30 seconds.

My question is: has anyone else experienced this type of pain associated with disc golf or any other activity? I know that the short answer is that I should see a doctor and I will when I have health insurance again (I am currently a returning college student!). Since that won't happen until September, I am looking for anyone with similar experience and maybe solved the problem. The summer is coming and there's lots of disc golf to be played!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Re:Disc golf injuries? HELP! - 2005/04/25 12:59 I can't say that I'm sure this is what it is, but I know rolling your wrist over during the throw can cause elbow pain. It's something I struggle with as well. Not only does is hurt, it also takes some distance and accuracy away from your drives.

Here's a bit of information about rolling your wrist over:

Re:Disc golf injuries? HELP! - 2005/04/28 13:01 i experienced a similar problem try wearing a arm band for tennis elbow
it is about a two inch band that wraps tightly around your fourarm right below your elbow. i had two wear one for about two years because of "painters elbow" wich is just tendonitis

Re:Disc golf injuries? HELP! - 2005/07/07 15:55 Michael,

I had the exact same problem. I had x-rays, MRI's, Therapy, and finally an EMG (I think that was the test) showed a trapped ulnar nerve. I had to have surgery to move it.

A roll over won't numb your arm, I dont think, it's like hitting ones funny bone almost (the ulnar nerve is what shoots off the pain when you hit your funny bone). Another sign is your last 2 fingers get numb (pinky and that other one).

Another thing to test for is if you can press somewhere on your elbow and feel pain. That's probably tendonitist. If you can't press and find pain then you're tendons are OK.

You might want to see a specialist about it. I waited 2 years and it got worse every month (yeah, I did keep playing). It got to the point where I'd get the shooting pain while opening pickle jars.

I adjusted my throw to a smooth x-step after surgery and only get the roll-over pain described below (when my form falls apart).

If you need more info let me know. I spent 2+ years finding out about elbow pain
