Formality - 2004/04/23 04:58Just how formal or etiquette driven should a casual game be? I have seen new players driven away from the game by over the top zealots screaming and ranting about the rules and etiquette of disc golf and generally carrying on like ball golfclub committee wankers. Funny as this can be, it seems to occur most when these little Hitlers have had a bad shot and need someone to blame for there own lack of focus. I say we shouldn't let rigid structuralism get in the way of the natural enjoyment of the game. ............of course tournament play is a different matter altogether. What I am trying to get across is that there's a time for serious gameplay,as in tournaments, and there's a time for just hangin' in the park chucking plastic and having a good time.

Well i say if it chases away some of the noobs because they dont understand not to drive on people then thats fine. I have been playing the majority of the courses in the St. Cloud area since i moved here 4 yrs ago.
There is nothing more irritating than seeing a group of 5 people when they each have one disc and they drive on you because " i could never throw that far" . The one time they get lucky is when i am goin to be takin a XL in the back of my head !!

again my 2 cents !!

Re: Formality - 2004/04/29 06:11we have a few simple rules when we play:
1. never walk infront of someone who is about to shoot. 2. Don't talk while they shoot. 3. on hacky-sack breaks, never start the hack yourself. 4. when smoking, always pass the dutchie on the left hand side. 5. pick up the trash you see and put it in a can. 6. bitching about a lousy shot is ok; more than three times isn't. 7. above all, let the people infront of you finish the hole before you start your drive.

Re: Formality - 2004/04/29 08:30I think that while courdesy violations should be brought up in casual games it should be done in a respectful manor and knowing that not everyone knows all the tournament rules. Granted safety rules should be more stringently enforced, but yelling at people doesn't always have as much of an impact as being nice to them.

Re: Formality - 2004/04/30 04:04Whilst an XL in the back can be a real treat, I think you missed the gist of the argument. Teaching the rules is for the good of the game but you don't need to turn the course into a police state.
