Re: what courses have u played - 2004/08/31 04:47 What a busy year it has been for me. In a moment I'll tell you about my recent trip to NEW ENGLAND and my pet project in WOOSTER, OHIO but, I am currently working with INNOVA DISCS and zonedriven.com to promote a special disc to honor my fallen friend Jesse R. Buryj. Jesse was a local player from Canton, Ohio who was killed in Iraq on May 5th of this year. I was blessed to had the oppotunity to hang around with JESSE for the last couple of years. He always wanted to play DISC GOLF, he never said a bad thing about anyone, and I'm going to miss him dearly. All proceeds of this disc go to a Memorial that will hopefully be in place by the next Memorial Day. At or near Jesse's favorite hole #6 at Arboretum Park in Canton, Ohio. So if you have some spare time and some spare change go and check out this disc at zonedriven.com I'm so gratefull for everything that INNOVA has done for this disc to become a reality. please check it out and buy one for JESSE, i'm sure he'd get a kick out of you owning one of these special discs.

I am also working with the Wooster Park department in developing a challeging 18 hole course at the beautifull Freedlander Park in the north end of Wooster. As of right now we have 9 challeging holes, but hopefully by next year we'll have 9 more. I'm working with an Eagle scout on a project that will have him (and other scouts from his troop) do the signs and cemnent tees. I hope to put in 4x10' trapezoid tee boxes at all the holes and small 6'retangular tee boxes at the novice tee boxes. The really cool thing about this project is that I helped donate a sizeable chunk for the 1st 9 holes and that I got to name the course after my Grandfather Miles Specht.and that I gave my hometown of Wooster a chance to love the game of Disc Golf like so many others have done before by installing a course. So if your ever in the northcoast of Ohio stop by and check out my dream come true.

I also had some time to go out and travel around some this summer and play 28 new Disc golf courses in the New England states and surrounding Canadian provinces. I'm up to 256 courses played thru out the World.
Just to let you know a little about myself, I like the courses that chalenge you on almost every shot, I love tight and extreme terrain changing courses (it just fits my game better) I also love courses that have some uniqueness to them or ones that look like they have some people who love the game of Disc Golf by doing the dirty work of making their course beautifull for other to enjoy. So here's a list of the courses I got to play while I was on vacation.

1) Caribou, ME Enman Riverside---- - Very challeging, I loved the deer screens along some of the fairways, all the holes were very challenging. WORTH the drive.
2) East Hartford, CT Wickham Park---- - This course rocked, I loved watching my disc fly for what it seemed for ever in the skyline of Hartford, Only drawback was they didn't have next tee signs. but still a very good course.
3) Turner, ME Cranberry Valley----- - Bring your bug spray, but other than that this 2 month old course rocked. The Turner Family has taken disc Golf to a new level by some of the aminities they incorporated to their course, like flags on every hole and markers that show that your 100' away from the basket. they're were a couple of really cool holes but I thought #18 was one of my favorites of my trip, you throw from the valley floor across the lake, towards the windmill and the country store. I highly recomend there Apple pie and Cranberry juice mmmmmm. and if you want some more action try a shoot your disc into the moving train the circles the hill next to their store, they have a basket on top of the locomotive. Good people, worth the visit to play or snack
4) Auburn, ME. Dragan Field ------ - My only regret is that is was near darkness when I got the chance to play this course. The holes where well groomed and they had a sweet disc store on the property. If any finds my blue champion panther that I lost on #10, i'll give you some cabbage for the return :^)
5) Brunswick, ME. Enman Field----- - The beauty and the beast, actually I like playing the beast more than the beauty, but both courses were very challenging, very nice disc store on property too.
6) Vassalboro, ME. Burnsboro DGC ---- - I liked this place alot. The owner (Rick Burns) tells me that people can camp there on his property if he gives his permission (very cool) to do so. I also loved the scenery and #3,16, 18. Very Good people
7) Johnson, VT. Johnson community college--- - The only bad thing about this course was there was only 12 holes. This place is situated near the heavens. I liked the art work that was within the forrest. I also liked the one hole that had a sidewalk made up of tree stumps that you walked over a bog like area to get the hole.
8) West Barnestable, MA. Cape Cod community college--- again the only thing lacking with this course was the lack of holes, only 9. Very challeging though, you played over extreeeeeeme terrain changes, over boulders. Very cool course, I'd recomend allowing extra time if traveling 2 the cape to play this course, but still worth the efforts to get there.
9) Strathgartney, Prince Edward Island, Canada Strathgartney Provincial Park ------ - This was the most best object course that i've ever played on. And to boot you can camp onsite with great amenities. Very HILLY, pituresque. They deffinatly needs some baskets here. other than that it was a treat. I also suggest to go and visit Charlottetown and Cavendish while on the island and since your within a hour or so you have to check out the Hopewell rocks in NEW BRUNSWICK (why isn't there a course or two in this province?)
10) Randolph, VT. White river DGc ----- - this course was really unique, I wonder how it's played when the river is up as on a couple of the holes you shoot across the river and you can either walk over the stones that lay across the river or walk a little bit to go over the bridge, I played like a tourist and walked over the bridge. Beautifull area. A must play with bug spray
11) N.Grosvenordale, CT West Thompson lake ---- - This course was very challenging, a couple of the later holes were downright scary to play. Again bring bug spray.
12) Durham, NH Hickory Pond Ball golf course ---- - Yep I didn't spell wrong here, its on a stick golf course. The holes were kinda lame, but you got to show the stickers that they were playing the wrong game by banging those chains from a far. Quite an experience
13) Sidney, ME D'n'D DGC----- - after playing this course you'll see what i mean by people who pour love into their course. This course could of been a minefeild of rocks and trees, but the owners have done alot of hard work to make it the challenge that is was 4 me 2 play. I also loved the old cemetary that was on the premisis
14) Churchville, NY Churchville Park DGC ---- - This course was very flat and was a joy to play from the blue tees one of the few rip and grip courses that I got 2 play on my trip. No trash cans, but then there wasn't any trash either are you listening Kalamazoo
15) North Monmouth, ME Beaver Brook Camping area---- - Am told that this was the 2nd disc golf course ever to be installed. Same baskets and appears to be the same layout. If anything It was a treat to play a course this old and a course that STEADY ED developed also got the opportunity to climb up MT. WASHINTON on this day, what a treat that was
16) Waterbury Center, VT. Hope A. Davey Park---- - This course would of been ranked higher if the park department would of mowed the fairways. Picturesque area with Mount Mansfeild in the distance. local country store has delicous food
17) Amesbury, MA Town Park ---- - Another course that would have been ranked higher if they would of had next tee markers displayed. Very Challenging, but frustrating as a tourist to find the next hole
18) Lincoln,NY Oxbow Falls----- - Bring your hiking gear and a friend or two. If it hadn't been for the 2 locals (john & Mike) that i got 2 play with, I would of been there awhile looking for my discs. Very dense under growth
19)Gatinineau, Quebec Jacques Cartier Park ---- - Again, I don't know what land they could of used but the land they used was why I rank this so low. on the high note I stopped in Montreal with my girlfriend Laura for a night of partying and that was very cool (why isn't there a course in Montreal?) I also got to see Ottawa, which i've always dreamed of doing, i'll be back.... but next time to watch some HOCKEY go BLUEs
20) Marston Mills, MA. Burgess Park ----- - I love these kind of courses when your trying to play as many courses in a vacation as possible, I also loved the smell of the pines and the other green stuff that was noticable near a couple of holes ;^)
21) Charlestown, RI Ninigret Park ----- - I didn't plan know they had 18 holes or else I would of planned my schedule another way. Bring BUG SPRAY or dress in armor
22) Jamesville, NY Jamesville BEACH DGC---- - Normal grip and rip course, more girls in bikini's than trees (what's wrong with that?, I wasn't there 2 go swimming)
23) Corning, NY Denison Park ------ - Only time I played in a downpour through out the whole round. I wish they had next tee signs posted other than on the hole marker, but it was a nice course never the less, if it was a sunnier day it would of been a higher ranking
24) W.Gardiner, ME Grassyland ---- - Where?s the grass, some of the holes we're fun to throw, was kinda muddy the day I was there, good flow
25) Fayetteville, NY Green Lakes STATE park- - Pitch and putt kind of course with some wild baskets, STEEP entry fee to play here
26) Laurens, NY Gilbert Lakes STATE park- - I stopped at this place, beautifull country if only the course would of had baskets and a better layout. I don't recommend this place till someone changes the layout. Now if they want to pay me to come out and do this, I might come back again.
27) Bangor, ME Gopher Ridge DGC- The directory says you can play it a night, so we came after dark to only be told that you couldn't, so we found a nearby campground and waited till the morning only to find that this course should be in one of STEPHEN KING's books. Most expensive to play in MAINE and problaay the worst to play in MAINE. stay away from this place till they do something with it, like sell the baskets to a park that wants to put in a course.

I hope I wasn't to critical in my evauluations with the courses I played while on my trip thru the NEW ENGLAND area. I met a lot of great people and saw some of the most gorgeous land around. If I only was rich to live in multiple places. Also I wasn't used to pay for so many of the disc golf courses, but you can tell that the money is being putt in the right places (aka the courses) I highly recommend anyone to play these courses and visit some of the cool places that are near by. I want to thank my Uncle Roger and his family for hosting us during our wonderfull NEW ENGLAND VACATION

Re: what courses have u played - 2004/08/31 17:19 Last summer I had the opportunity to play a few courses in Wisconsin and I really liked playing the following courses.
1) Vallarta-Ast DGC Token Creek (deforest) not only can you camp here, but all the holes were manicured and were very challenging to play. plus on the day I was there I had my own private air show with 3 f-16 doing tricks right over the park.
2) UW campus- Parkside Kenosha after I got out of my truck I saw a young girl teaching about 10 kids how to putt at the practice basket, I also thought the one hole with the deck was really unique, but the girl from Bulgaria, who was laying on the tee pad on #17 in a bikini was the topper
3) Crystal Lake Beaver Dam This course was a lot of fun to play, even though most of the holes were made up for recreactional play, plus the red headed lifegaurd was one of the prettiest girls I've ever layed eyes on, plus i won $58 on scratch offs at the gas station across the street.
4)Elver park Madison I was lucky 2 hook up with Dan and Brandon. They showed me how natives play the course and they also were good company. I loved the holes were you could just crank out your discs and watch them fly 4ever down the hillside
5) Lime-kiln park Grafton This place was packed with players, a good fun 9 hole course.
6) Heisted park Madison This place rocked, I wish we had a course like this where i live, kinda trashy the day i was there, but i'm sure that wasn't from the die hard disc golfers.
7) Tendick Nature area Saukville a realitively new course when i played and some of the holes were hard to find. I bet it will be fun after a few years of love and some hard work
8) Valley View New Berlin This place needs some attention, a couple of the baskets were stolen and alot of trash was visable. To bad because with some hard work by the local disc golfers this place would of been placed higher
9) Dr. George W. Hillard Park Beloit for the room that they had to use it was a good fun course to play on.

I'll be back to wisconsin someday to try to play the rest of your courses, I heard that the one in Platteville was one not to be missed and I want to stay at Sandy Point DG ranch especially after reading their book which describes how their place transformed into what it is now. I like to read other people opinions of the favorite courses that they've played and hopefully I'm not hurting anyone's feelings when I give my opinion of their respective course that i played.

May the course be with you --------------------- - t
